10 polling stations critical along Manipur-Mizoram border

Newmai News Network Aizawl | October 8   The Mizoram state administration said today that 10 polling stations in northeastern part of Mizoram adjoining Manipur are declared "critical".   Aizawl district deputy commissioner and District Electoral Officer, Dr A. Muthamma told reporters on Monday that out of 328 polling stations in Aizawl district, 10 polling stations in northeastern part of the state adjoining Manipur are declared "critical". The critical polling stations are Zokhawthiang, NE Tinghmun, Sailutar, Sunhluchhip and Ratu- I & II in Tuivawl constituency, NE Tlangnuam and Daido in Chalfilh constituency, the official said. She further said that para-military force would be deployed in these polling stations for smooth conduct of elections.   The Mizoram Chief Electoral Officer (CEO), SB Shashank said that the Mizoram state election machinery is fully prepared to conduct elections to the 40-member legislative assembly on November 28. He also said that a total of 7,68,181 electorates including 3,93,685 female voters will exercise franchise in 1,164 polling stations where EVMs would be used.   The election official, Dr A. Muthamma said that Aizawl district has been fully prepared to conduct election to 14 assembly constituencies. She also said that 2,88,322 electorates including 1,51,590 females voters would exercise franchise in 328 polling stations in Aizawl district alone. According to the official, there are 7 Returning Officers and 14 Assistant Returning Officers in Aizawl district. She further said that VVPAT machines will be used in all the polling stations.   One phase of EVM 'randomization' has been completed and around 35,000 voters have conducted mock poll, Dr A. Muthamma said, adding that people can lodge any poll related complaint to the call-centre by dialing 1950.   Elections to 40 assembly seats will be held in a single phase on November 28. The last date for filing nomination is November 9, while scrutiny of nomination paper will be held on November 12. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is fixed on November 14. Counting will be held on December 11.   According to DR A Mathumman, there will be five counting centres in Aizawl such as Pachhunga University College (PUC), Govt. Aizawl College, Hrangbana College, Assembly Annex and R.Dengthuama hall.
