13th Veteran Club Open Badminton Championship

DIMAPUR, JANUARY 11 (MExN): The 13th Veteran Club Open Badminton Championship 2011 concluded on Tuesday, January 11. Hosted at the Indoor Stadium, Eastern Christian College, Padumpukhri, the closing function was graced by the Parliamentary Secretary for Youth Resources & Sports Naiba Konyak as the chief guest. It had started on January 10.  
There were 52 of players in the fray who competed in six different categories.  
Parliamentary Secretary Konyak in his address lauded the Veteran Club for organising the annual event, while at the same time providing an avenue to the players to develop their potential. He urged the young players who are playing today to continue in the same spirit and determination and not drop out. When they excel, sponsors will willingly come forward, he said.   
Asserting that the youth are the backbone of a nation, he urged the Naga youths to come to the forefront while adding that the government is there to help them. Taking China as an example, he said that the neighbouring country reached where it is today because of the youth, be it in sports or other activities.
Noting the contribution of the Veteran Club in youth related activities, the Parliamentary Secretary said he will do whatever there is, within his means to provide some financlial assistance to the Club through the department of Youth Resources & Sports.
As a personal gesture of appreciation, he also donated a sum of Rs. 25, 000 to the club.
