144 CrPC promulgated in Longkhum

DIMAPUR, FEBRUARY 20 (MExN): Prohibitory order under Section 144 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) has been promulgated in Longkhum village under Mokokchung district in view of the apprehension of the possible breach of peace and disturbance of public tranquility thereby vitiating the smooth conduct of election in the village. According to a DIPR report, the notification from the DC & DEO, Mokokchung, Sachin Jaiswal said the order will remain in force from 6 pm to 6 am from February 19, 2018 till the end of the election process (3rd March, 2018). Under the order, assembly of 5 or more persons and carrying of fire arms, stones, lathis, explosive materials or any such items are prohibited, and the violators will be liable for punishment under Section 188 of the IPC. The prohibitory shall not apply to Government officials involved in the conduct of elections, law and order and essential services, the notification added.
