16th Nagaland Chess Challenger underway

Kohima, May 23 (MExN): The 16th edition Nagaland Chess Challenger Tournament organised by Nagaland Chess Association (NCA) commenced at Red Cross Conference Hall here today.   The NCA president K Sekhamo said that 40 players from across the state and different schools are participating in the three day tournament.   The tournament is being held under two categories including open category which has 25 players and Under-17 category with 15 players mainly school children.   Kedizhalhou Yano, aged 65, is the oldest challenger while Shekupu Awomi, aged 10, from Model Higher Seconday School is the youngest challenger.   The president also informed that the top 4 player among the open category will take part in the forthcoming National Open Chess championship, which is going to be held later this year.
