17 check points erected at Pungro

PUNGRO, APRIL 1 (MExN): The administration at Pungro has been able to establish 17 check points all around the Pungro Sub-Division. NAP, Police and the Village Guards (VGs) are keeping a vigil, operating 24×7 to ensure that no one from any parts of Nagaland enter in the area unreported or medically unexamined.

ADC Pungro, Abhinav Shivam IAS has stated said the administration is under a multitude of challenges like porous border with Myanmar, population dispersed among 54 villages, the threat of movements of vehicles and people were often in dereliction of orders. This, he stated was an added challenge in the fight to contain the COVID-19 outbreak.

He also said that 65 NAP personnel have to be kept at reserve for unforeseen exigencies, while the Police forces numbering only 45 personnel was too little to be spread out in the surrounding villages, roads and at the entry points.

“To plug the Gap and to holistically establish a full proof system, additional measures are needed, for which additional manpower which is disciplined and committed is needed to carry out the orders, without diluting the sanctity of the orders issued by the Government of Nagaland to enforce the lockdown," the ADC Pungro said.

Lauding the Village Guards posted under Pungro, the ADC said that the administration’s constraints in terms of forces were lessened with the help of the village guards.

In order confront the challenge, a network of responsible and proactive citizens were also established to report any unsolicited movements of people and traffic.
