17th Nagaland Chess C’ship concludes

Kevilekho Zumvu is open category champion

Kevilekho Zumvu emerged the open category champion of the 17th Nagaland State Chess Championship 2018, which concluded here today at Red Cross Conference hall.  

Sukhavi Achumi, Melesayi Dawhuo and Akhrietuo Kesieyie stood 2nd, 3rd and 4th position respectively.   Top four players under open category will represent the state at the forthcoming National Open Chess Championship this year.  

Under 17 years category, Nipeto Hesso bagged the champion title.   Suliki Awomi, Sedevituo Rio, Munu L. Yim, Heudiywanybe Meru and Kibeto Awomi stood 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th position respectively.  

Intovi K. Awomi emerged the champion title under 14 years category.  

Shinikali Hesso, Kunvuto Awomi, Pulonoto Hesso, Neikezhazo Rio and Uzholu Nyekha stood 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and 6th position respectively.   Nagaland Chess Association also acknowledged youngest player Jitihto Nyekha (6 years).  

NCA president P. Khezhie gave away prizes to the winners.  

The function was chaired by NCA treasurer Ropfiivilie Nagi while NCA general secretary Hekugha Yeputhomi delivered welcome address.  

Declaration of result was made by chief arbiter Mughaho Awomi.   Search Committee convenor K. Sekhamo announced the new team of NCA for 2018-21, which will be headed by Neiba Kronu, minister for planning & coordination and land revenue as president. Other office bearers include; vice president- Mughaho Awomi and Visanyiizo Kuotsu, honorary secretary- Hekugha Yeputhomi, joint secretary- Vekukho Soho, Kevilekho Zumvu and Kiyaselie Mere, treasurer- Ropfiivilie Nagi.  

The executive members will include P. Khezhie, K. Sukhamo, Sukhavi Achumi, Sede Nagi and S.I. Toshi.  

The championship was organized by NCA and sponsored by M/S V. Khamo & Sons Company, M/S Viu Belho & Sons Company and M/S Thepfuvio Zatsu Enterprises.  

State Bank of India, main branch Kohima, Life Insurance Corporation Kohima and Vijaya Bank Kohima also came forward as partnership.  

Altogether, 48 players under 17 years category and 19 under 14 years category from Little Flower Higher Secondary School, Corragio School, Holy Family School, Dainty Buds School and Mezhur Higher Secondary School joined the event. The open category event witnessed participants from Dimapur, Kohima, Zunheboto, Phek, Mokokchung, Wokha and Peren.
