2 arrested with heroin worth Rs 12 crore

New Delhi, April 12 (PTI): Two persons have been arrested with three kgs of fine quality heroin worth Rs 12 crore in Delhi, police said today.   Police recovered the heroin worth Rs 12 crore in the international market from their possession. It is also being investigated whether the accused had any links with drug suppliers in Pakistan and Bangladesh.   The two accused, Mohd Jafar and Parvej Saifi, both residents of Bareilly, UP, were arrested on April 11 from near Ghata Masjid, Ring Road Daryaganj, said DCP (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav.   Jafar's bag led to recovery of 2 kgs heroin while Saifi's bag contained 1 kg.   Both the accused disclosed that they are members of an international narcotic drug cartel being run by Manipur-based drug supplier, Manjum, said Yadav.   "The arrested accused had brought the recovered heroin to Delhi from Manipur by air on April 10. They wrapped drugs in thick layers of carbon papers to avoid detection by scanners installed at airports. Jafar had created a secret cavity in his bag to hoodwink the police," said Yadav.   They had come to Daryaganj from where they were arrested to supply heroin to an African national.   The accused have supplied more than 50 consignments of heroin from Manipur during last three years. This heroin is further supplied to various Delhi-based African persons residing in Vikaspuri, Tilak Nagar, Shahpur, and Uttam Nagar.   Drugs received by persons of African-origin are further smuggled to various European and African countries through courier companies, added the officer.   Jafar has revealed that Manjum has links with drug suppliers in Myanmar.   Apart from getting heroin from Manipur, Manjum also procures huge consignments of heroin from Myanmar. Although there is widespread illegal cultivation of opium in bordering areas of Manipur where heroin is prepared, its quality is inferior to heroin brought from Myanmar.   The processed heroin of Myanmar is cheaper than heroin produced by their counterparts in Manipur and is in high demand in international market as well as in India, he said.   Jafar has been procuring heroin from Manjum for last three years. He also revealed that Manjum supplies heroin to other drug dealers in NCR, UP and Punjab.
