2 Manipur BJP MLAs detained by police

IMPHAL, August 30 (NNN): Two BJP MLAs were detained by police here on Tuesday after the BJP workers and MLAs tried to foil a police constable recruitment rally at Manipur Police Training College (MPTC), Pangei. A large number of BJP workers led by Thongju MLA Thongam Bishwajit Singh and Thangmeiband MLA Khumucham Joykishan Singh along with the agitating members of the All Manipur DPC Completed Constable (Male) 2013 stormed the MPTC where the recruitment rally was in progress.   All Manipur DPC Completed Constable (Male) 2013 has demanded the state government to withdraw its order cancelling DPC results of over 2000 constable candidates who had completed written test, physical efficiency test and viva-voce. State Home Minister Gaikhangam recently appealed to the cop aspirants to take part in a fresh recruitment rally clarifying that the earlier DPC results had been cancelled after detection of gross irregularities in the process held in 2013.   Cops fired several rounds of tear gas canisters and mock bombs to disperse the protesters who attempted to break into the main gate of the training college. The two MLAs along with a group of workers forced themselves into the gate but were later pushed out of the campus. After a scuffle between the cops and protesters, the BJP MLAs along with some party workers were allowed to enter the college campus. The police then pulled up Bishwajit and Joykishan from the spot. Sources said the two MLAs have been detained by Imphal East police.   State BJP president Ksh Bhabananda told media, “The party hasn’t budged. The stir will continue against the government. A public rally is being arranged for tomorrow to push for the demand.”   Meanwhile, a 24-hour bandh call given by the All Manipur DPC Completed Constable (Male) 2013 in Imphal East demanding withdrawal of the government order to cancel the DPC results partly affected normal life.
