Imphal-Jiribam section of NH-37 will have a 24-hour vehicular service once the ongoing constructions of two major bridges along the highway are completed, said Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Saturday.

The chief minister was talking to a group of reporters after a function at state BJP’s temporary office in Imphal’s Canchipur in Imphal.

Biren Singh said that the constructions of RCC bridges on Barak and Makru rivers of the NH-37 in Tamenglong and Noney districts are set to complete by May this year.

The foundation works of the bridges are almost completed and parts of the bridges are being assembled at Siliguri of West Bengal, he said.

The chief minister further said that the Centre has sanctioned Rs 43 crore for the construction of Irang Bridge, another bridge on the same stretch of the highway on Irang River. The necessary tender for construction of the bridge has been drawn, he added.

With the completion of all these ongoing projects, NH-37 will be a round the clock vehicular service highway, he maintained.

The railway will connect Imphal with other parts of the country by 2022. He then said that almost half of the tunneling works of the Tupul-Imphal railway line has been completed and the ongoing railway line construction will also reach Kaimai in Tamenglong district before April this year.

Constructions of infrastructures for the railway project are going on in full swing to achieve the target, he said, and added that the target for reaching the railway in Imphal is 2022.
