Assam Governor’s bodyguards injured in accident in Meghalaya

Shillong, August 2 (IANS): Assam Governor Banwarilal Purohit’s security convoy on Wednesday was involved in an accident in Meghalaya, in which five of his bodyguards were injured, police said.

Purohit, who is also the Governor in-charge of Meghalaya, was unharmed, a Raj Bhavan official said.

The accident occurred in Mawiong area when the convoy was heading towards the Shillong Raj Bhavan, Governor’s Principal Secretary K.N. Kumar told IANS.

He said the vehicle carrying the bodyguards which followed the Governor’s vehicle overturned while trying to avoid a pick-up van coming from the opposite direction.

Kumar said three of the bodyguards have been admitted to the Civil Hospital, while the others have been discharged after first aid.

“The Governor was with them (injured bodyguards) in the hospital,” he said.
The Meghalaya Police have registered a case and launched an investigation to find out what caused the accident.
