368 houses affected, 110 people evacuated

DIMAPUR, JULY 20 (MExN): The severity of the damage caused by flash floods in Dimapur over the past couple of days came to light today.  

As of July 20, a report from the DPRO, Dimapur District informed that 368 houses have been affected, with fifteen specific areas bearing the brunt of the floods.  

The severely affected areas were Ekhyo Yan (Domokhia), Kushiabill, Toulazouma Village, Khopanulla area and Thaheku Block 7. Areas like Selouphe Village, Singrijan, Bade Village, Henivi Village, Sunrise Colony, Darogajan and Kushiabill were moderately affected. Darogapathar and Thilixu were some other areas that were mildly affected.  

The report informed that in Ekhyo Yan (Domokhia), more than 100 people were evacuated and relief camps were set up at GMS Ekhyo Yan. Another relief camp was also set up at Khusiabill GHS. From Toulazouma Village, 10 families were evacuated. Other effects of the floods included the Khopanulla Bridge developing cracks at the base; another bridge at Bade developing cracks; a suspension bridge being washed away at Thaheku Block 7; another suspension bridge washed away at Henivi Village; two damaged culverts; and damage to livestock and agri crops.  

The report added that there are however other areas that are yet to be assessed. Other relief arrangements being made include back-up of State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) arriving to Dimapur this evening from Wokha, Phek and Mokokchung and 35 personnel from 12 Bn. National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) arriving from Arunachal Pradesh. Both teams are set to camp at the Central Training Institute, Toluvi.  

Dimapur DC issues advisory

The Deputy Commissioner, Dimapur has advised all residents living near the river banks to maintain caution and be ready for evacuation whenever necessary. An advisory issued by the DC informed affected persons to approach the district administration for any assistance. CM takes stock of Dimapur situation

Newly sworn in Nagaland State Chief, TR Zeliang convened a meeting today and took stock of the flash flood situation in Dimapur. A press note from the CMO reported the Chief Minister directing the Chief Secretary to immediately assess the ground reality and submit a report at the earliest. The CM directed the sanction of Rs. 10 Lakhs to be handed to DC, Dimapur for immediate relief.  

Meanwhile, with regard to the ULB poll issue, the Chief Secretary has been directed to inquire and submit his report on whether ex-gratia has been handed over to the family members of the deceased and those injured persons during the January 31 violence. The Chief Minister further directed the Chief Secretary to issue necessary instructions to all government departments that all departmental matters taken up after the Model code of Conduct came into effect were to be taken up for re-examination.  

The meeting was attended by legislators, the Chief Secretary and senior government officials.  

DRFCB informs

The Dhansiri River Flood Control Board (DRFCB) has informed all those affected by the recent floods (only those residing along the Dhansiri River bank) to submit their names, location, address and phone numbers to the office of DRFCB. The details should be submitted through their respective GBs and Colony/Village Council Chairmen to enable the DRFCB to process all possible assistances from the authorities.
