37th General Conference of Tikhir students held

Tuensang, January 19 (MExN): The 37th General Conference of the Tikhir Students’ Union was held from January 12 to 14 at its Head Quarter Anatongre with the theme “Renovating skills for sustainable tomorrow”.  

Mark Morekiu graced the event as chief guest while W.T. Philip Tothong, General Secretary, Tikhir Tribal Council, was the guest of honour.  

The Chief Guest encouraged the Tikhirs to maintain peace and cordial relations with the other neighboring tribes since a single tribe alone could not move for development.  

He also challenged the young generation to be well prepared to compete and be role models of change. For decades Tikhir tribe has been in political subjugation which hindered our people, he said and thus, urged the young generation to be equipped with education.  

Guest of honour in his speech challenged the students and civil service aspirants to move forward to be at par with other people.  

A seminar on the theme of the conference was presented by T. Tsintsumong, Secretariat Assistant, while Y. Tsusuthong, Youth Secretary TBBA spoke on the topic “Breaking barriers for shaping future”.  

Short speeches were delivered by Topan Tikhir, President TTC, VCC Anatongre and Head GB Anatongre. Debate competition was also conducted with the topic “Education, and not politics is responsible for the development of our society”.  

The conference was attended by 26 Tikhir villages with 1400 delegates. Highlights of the conference include folk dance by Anatongre village, cotton yearning by Wapher village, and traditional fire making by Pokphur village. As part of the conference, one day sports event was conducted with Sekiur Village Students’ Union claiming the TSU volleyball trophy.
