40 cases prosecuted against defaulters of Legal Metrology Act in Nagaland

A total of 40 numbers of cases have been prosecuted against defaulters of the Legal Metrology Act & Rules by enforcement officers during the financial year 2018- 19 in Nagaland.

According to the Annual Administrative Report 2018-19 of Legal Metrology & Consumer Projection tabled on the floor of the House, the report stated that 3384 number of cast iron, brass and other weights, 192 number of capacity measures, 89 number of length measures and 2213 number of mechanical and electronic weighing and measuring instruments have been verified and rectified by the department during 2018-19 

The report stated that the department realized verification fees of Rs. 9, 23,000 through the verification and stamping of weighing and measuring instruments, and has realized compounding fees of Rs. 76,000 and license fees of Rs 3300 from the issue of Packers’ Licences and Dealers’ Licences to packers of packaged commodities and dealers of weights, measures and weighing and measuring instruments during the financial year 2018-19.

The report stated that the department has successfully conducted vigorous enforcement activities during the financial year 2018-19 such as the verification, stamping and section of weights, measures and weighing and measuring instruments used by traders, itinerant vendors, government departments, and industrial establishments in the state as per the provisions of the Legal Metrology Act 2009, the Legal Metrology (Packaged Commodities) Rules 2011, the Legal Metrology (General) Rules 2011, and the Nagaland Legal Metrology (Enforcement) Rules 2011.
 
Consumer protection

A total of 11 consumer cases were disposed off by the State Commission and four by the District Consumer Fora, and the Nagaland State Consumer Helpline addressed consumer complaints and queries during the financial year 2018-2019.
