48-hour bandh hit normal life in Chandel

Newmai News Network Chandel | September 26   Normal life was severely hit along the Imphal-Moreh road as the Naga Chief Association and Kuki Chief Association of Chandel district imposed a 48-hour bandh which began since Monday midnight.   The bandh has been called against the alleged misappropriation of MGNREGS wages of 2016-17. The two associations are demanding the clearance of 'wages' to the card holders.   Since this morning bandh activists and MGNREGS card holders including women in large number came out at various places including Chakpikarong, Machi, Tengnoupal and Moreh blocks to block the Imphal-Moreh road. The bandh supporters piled up logs and bou lders at various places of the roads making it hard for vehicles to pass through.   Shops and other establishments remained closed since this morning due to the bandh. However, not a single case of untoward incident was reported till the filing of this report. The bandh will culminate on Wednesday midnight.   Both the Naga Chief Association and the Kuki Chief Association of Chandel district had already submitted a joint memorandum to the State Government in this regard on September 14. They had also carried out sit-in-protest sometimes ago.
