4th Kohima Inter Ward Tourney concludes

Our Correspondent Kohima | February 6   The week-long 4th Kohima Town Inter-Ward Tournament 2016, featuring men’s football, women’s volleyball, women group singing and band competition concluded here today at Kohima Local Ground under the aegis of NPF 9th Kohima Town A/C with the theme “Unity and friendship through Sports and Music.”   In men’s football final, Ward No. 14 (Old Minister’s Hill & Poterlane) defeated Ward No. 16 (New Minister’s Hill, New Reserve and Lerie Chazou) 5-1 to emerge as champions.   Gobin Mandel scored a brace while Povil Phingo, Vikhose Dul and Mhasikhoto Phiyho netted a goal apiece for Ward No. 14. The lone goal for Ward No. 16 came through Hekato Aye.  

The champions pocketed a cash prize of Rs. 35,000 while the runners-up were awarded Rs. 25,000.   In women’s volleyball final, Ward No. 14 claimed the championship title after overpowering its opponent Ward No. 15 (AG) with scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-22. The champions were awarded Rs. 20,000 while the runners-up received Rs. 15,000.   In the Inter Ward band competition, Ward no. 7 (Daklane) bagged the first position and pocketed Rs. 20,000 while Ward No. 2 (Bayavii) stood runners-up and received Rs. 15,000. In the Inter- Ward women group singing competition, Ward No. 7 stood first to win Rs. 20,000 while Ward No.14 bagged second and were awarded Rs. 15,000.   Kohima Deputy Commissioner Rovilatuo Mor who was the guest of honour at the closing ceremony gave away the prizes to the winners.   In his address, Mor expressed happiness and appreciation to various organisations for organizing various competition in Kohima town.   He also stressed on the need to have mutual understanding, and unity among the citizens of Kohina town through sports and other competitions and at the same time to work together for the development of Kohima town. Further, he appealed the citizen to contribute for Kohima and the state for peace and all round development. Vote of thanks was proposed by Krodiho Kennao, secretary NPF 9th Kohima Town A/C.   It may be mentioned that the Inter –Ward Tournament, initiated by Minister for Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Dr. Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, was started in 2010 with the objective to facilitate the spirit of oneness, fostering unity and bringing the people closer.   Minister for PWD (R&B) Y. Vikheho Swu inaugurated the tournament on February 1 last.
