69th Republic Day observed

Advisor, Irrigation and Flood Control & SIRD, Tovihoto Ayemi unfurled the national flag at Government Higher Secondary School, ground, Jalukie to mark the 69th Republic Day celebrations.   After unfurling the flag and singing of the national anthem led by students of Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) Jalukie, Tovihoto read out the speech. Tovihoto lauded the people for their participation in various welfare projects. “I'm also happy to note that Nagaland Churches. NGOs and civil society have come out with campaigns for Clean Election in all seriousness,” he added.   Highlights of celebration included presentation of cultural items by Mhainamtsi village, students of JNV Jalukie and students of College of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry, Jalukie and demonstration by Taekwondo Association, Peren district.

Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union: Dimapur Bengali Students’ Union celebrated Republic Day in the premise of Durga Mandir, Dimapur. The ceremony was attended by former DMC member Phukavi Yepthomi as the chief guest while president of Dimapur Bengali Samaj KK Paul and NPF minority cell central president Bishnu Bhattacharjee graced the ceremony as the guests of honour. Previous vice president of DBSU, Rajat Ghosh informed that the union since its inception has sponsored the education of seventeen underprivileged students in Dimapur. Prizes were also distributed during the ceremony to the winners of a painting competition organized by DBSU previously.  

JNV Chare: JNV Chare celebrated the republic day at the school multi-purpose ground. The celebration started with the unfurling of the followed by the national anthem and march past of the contingents of the four houses and scouts and guides of the school. Exhorting the students, Harish Kalita, principal JNV Chare pointed out that contribution to the progress and development of our country is not only through fighting with enemies at our borders or sacrificing our lives for the nation.” Manoj Kumar Rangeera TGT-English and Shahidul Islam TGT-Assamese also spoke on the occasion while Dirola of Class IX and Raj Kapoor of Class VII delivered short speeches. Udaigiri house was adjudged the winner of the march past competition followed by Shivalikand Aravali houses as 1st and 2nd runners up respectively.  

District Legal Services Authority: The 11 District Legal Services Authority (DLSAs) across the state rendered legal services on Republic Day by setting up stalls at local ground, distributing legal literatures English and local dialect, legal counseling and visited district jail.  

The literatures in English and local dialect of their respective district were explained and distributed by the district Chairman, Secretary, Panel Lawyers and Para-Legal Volunteers to the VIPs and various sections of people. The literatures were on various rights and provisions such as Food Security Act 2012, Protection of women from domestic violence, cyber crime, lokadalat, legal aid and legal services etc.  

During the visit to district jail, the Phek DLSA members had an interaction with the UTPs and the convicts. The members also apprised them of their legal rights and legal assistance available for the poor. Legal leaflets translated in Tenyidie were also distributed. It was noted that altogether there are 13 jail inmates under which 9 UTPs and 4 convicts in the district jail.  

NABARD and NStCB: NABARD and NStCB celebrate Republic day in the HO complex of Nagaland State Cooperative Bank. The event was jointly organized by the officers and employees of NABARD and NStCB. The National Flag was unfurled by Imtilemba Longkumer, Managing Director NStCB in presence of SK Dhumal, GM (OIC) NABARD, RO, Nagaland and Officers and Employees of NABARD and NStCB HO Dimapur.  

St. Joseph’s College: Republic day was celebrated in Jakhama, St. Joseph’s College. Fr. C. Joseph while hoisting the flag said that it is time for all of us to come together to preserve the traditional brotherhood, peace and harmony in our beloved country. He appealed to leaders across the political spectrum to recognize that groups and individuals spreading poison and sowing hatred which are increasing and are being emboldened. Recalling the freedom fighters, he said that our Freedom fighters sacrificed themselves to hand over to future generations a secular country “where the mind is without fear and the head is held high.”
