6th Nagaland Catholic Youth Movement Convention underway

Dimapur, January 15 (MExN): Seeking self transformation and the transformation of the world through the proclamation of their faith in Jesus Christ and his teachings, over 900 youth from across Nagaland gathered at St. Xavier’s Parish Meluri to celebrate Christian brotherhood and spiritual unity at the 6th Nagaland Youth Movement Convention from the January 14 to 17.
“As the sun rose on Meluri this morning, the youth raised their heart and mind to God in Praise and Worship. The Catholic youth from every tribe of Nagaland have gathered in St Xavier’s Parish, Meluri for their Convention with the theme ‘Transformed by Faith, Transforming the World’,” stated a press note.
The note said that Charles Nosazol, president of Catholic Association of Nagaland elaborating on the theme of the Convention exhorted the congregation and said that Christ is the greatest transformer and the only way to transform our lives is by submitting to God. “It was indeed a proud moment for NCYM (Nagaland Catholic youth Movement) as different parish youth presidents for the corners of Nagaland participated in ceremonial flag hoisting and members pledged to stand for Christ throughout their lives.”
The chief guest for inaugural function, Yitachu, parliamentary secretary for law, justice and tourism encouraged the youth to know oneself and think positively to transform the world for by transforming oneself, we transform the world! Stressing the importance of faith, he declared: “In faith we can do wonders.”
It also stated that the Pochury community welcomed the august gathering with welcome song and colorful traditional dance. The youth from Kiphire encouraging the congregation sang their traditional folk song. Also present for this grand function as guest of honour was Lichamo Peter, ADC of Meluri, convenor of the convention Rev Fr. Mathew Keemattam, parish priest, St. Xavier’s Parish, Meluri, Rev Fr C. P Anto, director of NCYM, Rev Fr Mathew Thuniampral secretarty, educational commission, Diocese of Kohima, priests, religious, pastors, civil society leaders, community elders and many well wishers. The gathering was welcomed by Robert Solo, president NCYM and word of gratitude was expressed by Sheikutho John, joint convenor of the convention.
The convention will include group sessions on various spiritual, social and environmental issues; spiritual animation, celebration of the Holy Eucharist, Adoration, Eucharistic Rally and  cultural fiesta. The Valedictory function to be held on January 16 will be graced by Naiba Konyak, minister for youth resources and sports, the press note informed.
