7 projects under construction under Kohima smart city

Kohima Smart City Development Limited (KSCDL) chief executive officer Kovi Meyase today said that under Kohima Smart City, seven projects are under progress.

Among the others include; two multi car parking at Old medical directorate and NST, beautification project from Classic Island till D. box cutting area, construction of smart city office and KMC office.

He informed that Kohima was selected as smart city in September 2016 but the actual implementation began only in October 2018.

Other projects under process includes like wi-fi city, social security, traffic management, smart street lighting etc.

He said the Old Secretariat area would be developed and it would be perhaps the “crowning jewel of Kohima”.

“We envision a centre where there will be five star hotels, a mall, shopping complex, amphitheatre, gymnasium, green parks and multi level car parking, a digital library etc,” he said.

It would also beautify and develop 2nd World War tank area with provision of restaurants, parks and recreational area.

“We will try to develop the empty spaces in the nearby areas and turn it into an attractive and tourist friendly area,” he said.

It would also concentrate on seven Area Base Development (ABD) ward which falls under slum area.

He called for the joint effort of the stakeholders and citizens to make Kohima as citizen centric smart city.

Meanwhile, the Kohima Smart City has been ranked the second amongst all the North Eastern cities in uploading City Data indicators, Meyase further informed. Meyase said Kohima could achieve the second rank in Smart City Index being able to upload 69 indicators with Ujjain city ranked as first for uploading 75 indicators. The indicators include Living condition, Economy, People, Governance, Mobility and Environment.
