Nagaland cops involved in car mishap in Golaghat

Two convoys of Nagaland Police travelling from Merapani in Wokha to Dimapur were stone pelted on by irate locals after they were involved in an accident at the Barapathar Railway crossing in Golaghat district, Assam.


The convoys were ferrying Nagaland Police personnel to Dimapur, for their onward journey to New Delhi on an assignment.


According to Nagaland Police DGP LL Doungel IPS the convoys “came under stone pelting from an irate crowd” after a motorcycle hit the bus resulting in the death of the occupant and injury to the co-rider.


“Our boys restrained from retaliating in order to prevent the situation from escalating further,” Doungel said while informing that he is in touch with his Assamese counterpart to resolve the issue amicably.


One vehicle belonging to the Nagaland Police was burnt down by the crowd, informed a reporter from Assam. some also sustained minor injury. Nagaland DGP, however, said that he was not aware of any vehicles being burned. He added that buses have been sent from Chumukedima to bring back the stranded personnel.
