8 booked under NLTP Act

Dimapur, August 5 (MExN): The 24th Assam Rifles while conducting Motor Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) at the Blue Hill Station Road, Dimapur on August 4 at 9:30 intercepted one Maruti Van, bearing registration No NL-07C-1319, carrying 98 cases of assorted contraband liquor.
A press note issued by Pitongse Sangtam, Superintend of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur stated that the duty party immediately arrested the two occupants of the vehicle namely Bikash Chetri (22 years) S/o Lt. Kamal Chetri of Lahorijan and Raju aka Rajendra (27 years) C/o Sargam Hotel, Dimapur. The Assam Rifles personnel after maintaining proper seizure memo and other necessary documents handed over the two accused persons, contraband articles and the seized vehicle to the Superintend of Excise & Prohibition, Dimapur. Basing on the report of the investigating officer, the accused persons were penalized as per the relevant sections of the NLTP Act 1989 and the contraband items deposited in the excise malkhana. The note stated that in this regard, the vigilant action of the 24th AR in intercepting the contraband liquor is highly appreciated.
Further, the note mentioned that District Excise and Prohibition enforcement personnel conducted a surprise raid on booze joints in and around Nuton Bosti area, Dimapur on August 4, 2011 and recovered a total of 72 bottles of IMFL & Beer and 291 kgs of Zu & Rohi. In this connection, six accused persons were arrested and penalized as per the relevant sections of the NLTP Act ’89. The note stated that the duty party was led by Inspectors Khevito Swu and Toshiho Yeptho along with then other Excise personnel.
