“A formidable fighter to the end for what she believed was right. A woman before her time,” said Niketu Iralu, brother of Rano Mese Shaiza while paying tribute to the former MP from Nagaland, who passed away on April 1.
The funeral service of Rano Mese Shaiza was held at Ura Academy Hall Kohima on April 2. The service was led by Rev. Rachülie Vihienuo, Pastor, Union Baptist Church. Speeches were delivered by Shürhozelie Liezietsu, Mayo Shaiza, Lhouvitsü Kesiezie, Rev. Candid Sareo, Niketu Iralu and Aziebu Shaiza. The funeral rites were performed by Rev. Tsolie Chase, Pastor, Baptist Church Kohima.
Mayo Shaiza in his speech thanked the Angami community for giving Rano the chance to contest in the MP election who said that it was because of the love of the people that Shaiza won the MP election.
Lhouvitsü Kesiezie in his tribute to Rano pointed out the many contributions of Rano and most importantly her pursuance of keeping one’s culture and identity alive through traditional attire, a signature style of hers. Kesiezie termed Rano as “The guide and mother of many of us” and hoped that Nagas will continue her path.
Her son Aziebu Shaiza affirmed his mother Rano as “the perfect blend or breach between the Angami and Tangkhul Community at difficult junctures.”
