ACAUT urges State government to arrest NSCN (IM) Town Command

Dimapur, August 20 (MExN): Against the backdrop of the public ransacking the NSCN (IM) Town Command office in Wokha recently, ACAUT Nagaland has extended support to the Wokha people and the joint resolution of several organizations of the district.

The joint resolution demanded that the State government arrest the NSCN (IM) Town Command of Wokha, who is also a member of NCSU and Lotha Class-1 Registered Union, within 10 days, that is, on or before August 23, according to a press release from Media Cell, ACAUT Nagaland. It also asked the Chairman of the Ceasefire Monitoring Group to take serious note of public sentiment and shift the office of the Town Command from Wokha immediately.

ACAUT Nagaland mentioned that it had already filed FIR against the Town Commander of NSCN (IM) on June 11. “If the police and the State Government had paid careful attention to the ground reality prevailing at Wokha and taken serious note of the FIR and arrested the Town Commander, the August 12 incident would not have taken place,” it stated.

It further urged the State Government to arrest the Town Commander as per the FIR registered against him and for his “extortion” activity at Santsuphen, Wokha before the situation turns to worse.

The release stated that the demands of the Wokha frontal organisations should not be taken lightly for they represent the opinion of the general public. “There is a limit to all harassments meted out to the people by the NPGs and therefore, unless the Government acts swiftly and decisively by addressing the core demands, Wokha is a powder keg waiting to explode,” ACAUT stated.
