Adolescent Fest 2019 organized by CAN Youth began on Monday at DDSC Stadium under the theme, “I am the now.”

The Fest envisages to create a ‘safe space’ for the young people and to empower them to live in the present and explore their talents. Delivering the welcome address, Founder and Chief Functionary of CAN Youth, Jenpu Rongmei said, “we want the vulnerable section of this group of people to live with dignity and create a humane society.”

Special Guest of the event, Chenithung Humtsoe, General Secretary of Nagaland NGOs’ Forum encouraged the adolescents to be careful of what they choose to do at their stage stating they were in a ‘crucial period’ of their life. “If you are not careful then you can go astray and you can face so many challenges at this point of time,” he said.

Chenithung urged them to be humble and wise and not to let anything hamper their progress towards the positive aspects of life.

“This is a transition period for you when you want to assert yourself as a human being and so you need to be careful at every step,” he added. He also advised them against becoming slaves of modern day progressive developments.

On Monday, various activities including penalty shoot-out, painting competition, slogan competition, solo singing, solo and group dance were some of the highlights. The second and final day of the Fest would witness competitions in folk song, tug of war, choir and Mr and Ms Adolescent 2019. The closing ceremony would begin at 6 pm.
This is the first ever adolescent fest in the northeast.
