Advocacy program on AIDS conducted at Longchem

Dimapur, April 17 (MExN): One-day Advocacy program on HIV and AIDS was conducted on April 15, 2011 at Zulutemba Memorial Hall, Longchem for the 30th Alongtaki A/C by Care and Support Society, Mokokchung.
A press note issued by Imchawati Kichu, Managing Director, Care and support Society, Mokokchung stated that the program was supported by Legislators’ Forum on AIDS (LFA) Nagaland. The program was attended by around 250 stakeholders from various village councils, Churches, political parties, youths, VDBs, NGOs, Schools, District administration and so on. Moa, EAC Longchem welcomed the participants and emphasized that such program were the need of the hour. Heroto, LFA representative spoke on Community response where he gave the introduction of LFA -the Legislators have been mobilizing resources from their Local Area Development Fund (LADF) and they do not only accord mental approval and support but are personally involved to advocates of HIV and AIDS prevention in their own constituencies and district level. He encouraged the audience to take the facilities of ICTC (integrated Counselling and testing centre) where the services are access in the respective places and Mobile ICTC van which was present in the program.
Makshi, Program Office DAPCU (District AIDS Prevention and Control Unit) Mokokchung highlighted the present scenario of HIV and AIDS of Nagaland and Mokokchung District in particular. Dr. Imtijungshi, M.O i/c Longchem PHC shared on facilities and support under PHC Longchem . He further presented a slide show with pictures on HIV and STI. He also emphasized for pregnant women to for hospital delivery. Imchawati Kichu, Managing Director, C&SS, Mokokchung presented the facilities that are available in the district related to HIV and AIDS. He requested the representative for Parliamentary Secretary Aosanen P. A, to take the message on the urgent need of Community Care Centre at Mokokchung. Lima, NMP+ spoke on the impact of Stigma and discrimination. He requested the audience to understand the needs of PLHIV and accept as who they are.
On behalf of Er. T.Saku Aier, Parliamentary Secretary for Housing Labour and Employment, Nagaland, Aosanen P.A, delivered the message where he emphasized to love, care and support People living with HIV and AIDS. “Medical treatment must be taken up immediately if some found to be HIV positive, and since there is no medicine, the word “Prevention is better than cure” can be quoted as “prevention is the only best “ for our generation from HIV and AIDS,” he said. He challenged the youths to be aware of this dreaded disease. The note further mentioned that an action plan was framed by the house and during the discussion different stakeholders spoke on the urgency of the issue of HIV and AIDS. The house decided to organize one day seminar in their respective villages, secondly decided to extend support, provide care and show love towards PLHIV in the community.
