AGOK to build Multi Utility Centre at Meriema

Kohima, November 9 (DIPR): The Angami Gazetted Officers’ Krotho (AGOK) held the foundation stone laying ceremony of the AGOK Badze Multi-Utility Centre which was formally laid by Additional Chief Secretary & Finance Commissioner, Temjen Toy, IAS on November 9 at AGOK Badze, Meriema.  

Exhorting the AGOK members, Temjen Toy said, “All tribes have officers’ union but not all have concern for the people.” However, unlike others AGOK has been working for the welfare of the people as a union since its inception, he said.  

“Kohima being the capital is in need of one good Multi Utility Centre, there are many but none meets the standard,” he said and advised the Krotho to go against the norm and alter the DPR and make improvements along the way. “I’m sure resources will flow in,” he added.  

He urged the Krotho to accomplish the project with the highest quality and be a project for everyone to see as an example. He expressed hope that one day seminars and workshops of both government and non-government organizations of the highest standard will be held in the proposed Multi Utility Building of AGOK at Meriema.  

He further stressed on the need to prepare youths for the future “Journey to our future is rushing so fast, our preparation should be relevant for the future and the most important thing for our youths to prepare their future is to change their mindsets.”  

President, AGOK, Dr. Kedozeto Punyü, who chaired the programme, expressed gratitude to all the pioneers and visionary leaders of the past and present for their valuable suggestions and contributions towards the Krotho. He particularly thanked the pioneers namely Kevisiezolie Suohu, Thepfulhouvi Angami, R. Kevichüsa, Molhou Zhasa and Lt. Dr. Zakievotso.  

He mentioned that the AGOK was formed in the year 1983 with KK Angami and Thepfulhouvi Angami as the first President and General Secretary respectively. The AGOK Badze was purchased on November 19, 1991 at a cost of 2,40,000 and measuring around 3.07 acres, he said.  

He highlighted some of the main objectives of the project such as to host important cultural and social events for the citizens of Kohima, to host meetings, training and seminars of both government and non-governmental sectors, to make available professional sports infrastructure and training facilities to the youth, to provide modern facilities at affordable rates.  

The amenities such as conference hall with a seating capacity of 700-800 with gallery, two mini halls of 50-60 seating capacity, two deluxe rooms for guests/resource persons and parking facility for minimum 100 vehicles would be provided. The target set by executive members to complete the project is within 2 years.  

Construction committee is to be headed by K. Neibou Sekhose as the Convenor whereas Richard Belho, entrepreneur and an architect by profession, will be the main architect of the AGOK Badze Multi-Utility Centre.  

Vice President, AGOK, K. Neibou Sekhose proposed the vote of thanks while Pastor, Meriema Baptist Church, Keduolhoulie Shüya offered dedicatory prayer.   A host of dignitaries such as AHoDs, HoDs, former AGOK Presidents & Secretaries, AYO, ASU, AWO and other well-wishers and members of AGOK attended the programme.
