Ahthibung upgraded to sub-division

Peren, December 20 (MExN): A long cherished dream of the people of Ahthibung area was fulfilled when the erstwhile Ahthibung EAC HQ was upgraded to SDO Civil HQ on December 19.  

Inaugurating the new SDO Civil HQ, Nagaland Chief Minister TR Zeliang called it a red letter day for the people of Ahthibung and urged the people of the area to work hard and judiciously make of the blessed land.  

“The area has a potential of producing agricultural products on large scale for commercial purpose. But people must be willing to work hard and judiciously make of the God blessed land for economic sufficiency. Agriculture produces like paddy, vegetables, fruits, spice etc grow very well in the area therefore, people of the area must harness this potential,” he said.  

Ahthibung, which borders the Intanki Reserve Forest, also has vast biodiversity and rich wildlife, he viewed and advised the people to be conscious in preserving the flora and fauna. “This resource has an immense potential to boast tourism in the state if people can responsibly take care of the wildlife,” Zeliang added.  

The Chief Minister further stated that inter-state connectivity will not be problem in the future as the 2 laning of Medziphema-Khelma road under State Express Highway will be taken up shortly.  

“Once this road is upgraded and improved, it can be directly linked with Assam. Once the roads come up, people must be prepared to make of it through proper planning for economic upliftment. Besides this, Ahthibung-Khelma 2 Lane road under SARDP has been approved and DPR is under submission,” he said.  

Minister Imkong L Imchen in his short speech congratulated the people of Ahthibung and urged the public to cooperate with the administration and avail of all facilities provided by the government.  

Earlier, the Chief Minister also unveiled the monolith of SDO Civil HQ. The function was attended by hosts of ministers, officers and the general public.
