A 10-point resolution was adopted by the Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM) at its just concluded 68th General Conference held at Khar village under the theme “Reinvigorate” from January 15 to 17.

 


More than 2200 delegates who attended the three-day general conference representing all the units of the AKM, the apex students’ organization of the Ao Nagas, adopted the “pangzüng” (resolution) by show of hands after it was tabled and deliberated upon during the business session on the last day of the conference.

 


Various NNPGs urged to work towards unity


A 5-member committee was entrusted to draft the resolutions which was later adopted and passed by the general conference. All of the ten resolutions were based on the theme of the conference. One of the major resolutions adopted was the reiteration of the AKM Platinum Jubilee 2004 Mangmetong General Conference Resolution No.6 that called for the various Naga National Political Groups (NNPGs) to work towards unity and to raise a collective united voice.

 

To promote Ao Naga language


Basing on the two workshops that was conducted as part of the general conference, it was resolved that AKM shall facilitate the institution of an Ao Entrepreneurs Forum which will work for the development and promotion of entrepreneurship and to declare the years 2020 to 2029 as the “AKM decade for the preservation and promotion of the Ao Naga language.” It may be noted that the year 2029 coincides with the centennial year of AKM.

 

Panel to scrutinize functioning of MLC

Another major resolution adopted was that AKM would work with the competent authorities to protect and preserve the land on which the Nagaland Pulp & Paper Corporation Ltd. (Tuli Paper Mill) is established. Another resolution was also made to appoint an expert panel to scrutinize the functioning of the Mokokchung Law College (MLC) and explore options for the institute’s improvement. The expert panel is to submit its findings and recommendations to AKM within one month’s time, basing upon which AKM shall take the next course of action.

 

Other resolutions 


To “reinvigorate” and sustain the Survival Mokokchung campaign, the general conference resolved to appoint an expert committee to draft a “campaign guidelines.” The other resolutions included streamlining of the functions of all the standing committees under AKM, organizing annual felicitation of HSLC and HSSLC toppers irrespective of boards, formation of an AKM property committee and to review the AKM Platinum Jubilee Mangmetong 2004 Resolution No. 15, which pertains to the construction of a commercial building in Dimapur.

 

 


The “pangzüng” also put on record the AKM’s appreciation to the village of Khar for successfully and flawlessly hosting the general conference. The next general conference of AKM will be hosted by Akhoya village, under Langpangkong range of Mokokchung district, in the year 2023.
