Akumdong Humanity Fund gives hope to 5-year-old Rhondeno

Dimapur, July 1 (MExN): Five-year-old Rhondeno was diagnosed with brain tumor at NEIGRIHMS Shillong early this year. Her father Tsuponthung, a constable at DEF Tuensang, consulted doctors in Dimapur as he could not afford to take her outside the State for treatment, but he was left disheartened due to lack of finances. He gave up hope and went back to Wokha.

A friend shared about Akumdong Humanity Fund (AHF) to Tsuponthung and he met some members of the AHF committee. “Keeping in mind the seriousness of the child’s condition, the committee members immediately offered assistance,” said Dr. Yan Murry, Chairman, Akumdong Humanity Fund, Dimapur in a press release.

On June 30, Tsuponthung with his wife Nzano and Rhondeno left for CMC Vellore. The General Secretary of the Council of Baptist Churches of North East India (CBCNEI) has written a special letter to CMC Vellore which will enable Rhondeno to get discount on the medical bills, Dr. Yan further informed. An employee in the Chaplaincy department of CMC Vellore has volunteered to take care of the patient and family when they reach Vellore, he added.

“AHF not only provided monetary assistance but also guided the patient’s family. AHF is now raising funds for Rhondeno which will run into a few Lakh rupees,” the release said.

About Akumdong Humanity Fund

During the course of the fund raising drive for late Akumdong, a 5-year-old brain cancer patient, Rupin Sharma, IPS, Director General – Prisons, HG & CD, Nagaland came up with the suggestion of initiating a corpus for similar such situations.

Noticing and acknowledging the notable effort by Samaritans and philanthropists who wholeheartedly and generously contributed towards supporting Lt. Akumdong’s family to meet the medical expenses, a need was perceived for constituting a permanent corpus for such eventualities. The corpus would be available for assistance of individuals in dire need, who cannot overcome the problems themselves.

“This is a fund for the people, by the people,” the note stated.

AHF is a Trust in the nature of a not for profit, charitable organization where the committee members shall not be entitled to any compensation or remuneration.
