Nagaland: All schools directed to be accessible & barrier free

Kohima, February 12 (MExN): The management of all Government Schools, Government aided Schools and Private Schools in Nagaland have been directed to adhere to a Supreme Court’s judgement order and make their respective schools barrier free and accessible for children with special needs through construction of ramps/stair lifts/lifts/others.

This direction is in pursuant to the Judgement of the Supreme Court dated December 15, 2017, in the Writ Petition(Civil) No.243 of 2005 with Writ Petition (Civil) No.228 of 2008 on making all public places accessible and barrier free, informed a DIPR report.

Simultaneously, all school establishments should ensure that children with special needs are not denied admission to schools, it added.
