AMSU observes ‘Hunger Marchers’ Day'

IMPHAL, August 27 (NNN): The 51st ‘Hunger Marchers’ Day’ was observed by All Manipur Students’ Union (AMSU) to pay respect to those who had died during a student protest staged here against an artificial famine created by the government in 1965. Thousands of students, well-wishers, AMSU leaders and family members, relatives and friends of the student ‘martyrs’ paid floral tributes at the memorial complex located at Pishum Chingamacha here. On August 27, 1965, AMSU organized a protest rally against artificial famine in the Imphal streets during which the police unleashed a brutal crackdown against them, killing four. The union has been observing the event every year.
