Elections for next tenure on March 14
Tahamzam, March 5 (MExN): The All Naga Students’ Association, Manipur (ANSAM) is all set to inaugurate its first ever Secretariat Complex in Tahamzam (Senapati) on March 13.
The freshly built Complex is located in Katomei Village.
The ANSAM since its inception has been working without a permanent bureau, hindering its functioning in the absence of basic logistics. In an attempt to mend the gap, it acquired a plot of land at New Eden in Katomei Village in 2005. In 2015, the construction plans were finally set off, and the Secretariat Complex completed with a Conference Hall and a Resource Centre.
The ANSAM stated that through an active secretariat, “we seek to help build and strengthen the ideals of democracy, amplify peoples voices and stories, promote peace and justice, revive traditional wisdom and practices on land and natural resource management and help build lives of our students and youths and thereby contribute to nation building.”
In conjunction with the March 13 inauguration of the Secretariat Complex, the ANSAM will also host a ceremony to give the Maj. Shimreingam Shaiza Memorial Award (MSSMA).
The first MSSMA ceremony was held in June 2007 in Ukhrul. An award of excellence along with a citation and cash was conferred to three students from Okai Academy (Mao), Savio School (Ukhrul) and St. Joseph School (Shajouba, Senapati) for their outstanding performance in the HSLC examination they gave under the Nagaland Board of Secondary Education (NBSE) as a symbol of resistance against the imposed education system under the Government of Manipur.
The Award was discontinued for years due to practical difficulties.
“It is fair and right to resume it in memory of a man who understood education as key to empowering of minds and voices of a people and in celebration of bonds beyond borders,” stated the ANSAM.
Meanwhile, the ANSAM will hold general elections for its next tenure on March 14.
