Life in Manipur was severely hit on November 19 by the 18-hour "total shutdown” during which police detained three women protestors.

Manipur People Against Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (MANPAC) gave the total shutdown in protest against the Centre’s plan to bring back the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill (CAB).

The shutdown received an overwhelming response from the people from different walks of life. There were reports of people coming out on the streets in their respective localities and imposing the strike from across the valley districts.

They imposed road blockades by staging protests and blocking the roads, all the while chanting anti-CAB slogans.

At some places, while chanting the slogans, they also protested against hurting Manipur interests and territory.

Regarding the traffic volume across the state capital, it witnessed a thin flow of vehicles as all commercial vehicles including long and short distance passenger service vehicles stayed off the roads. Only few private vehicles, mostly two-wheelers were seen moving on the streets. Similar situations were reported from other valley districts.

Very few government schools and colleges opened but no class was conducted as no students turned up.
