AR condemns May 3 ambush

DIMAPUR, MAY 14 (MExN): The Assam Rifles today stated that the “true face of NSCN (K) has been exposed in last fortnight,” referring to the May 3 ambush on AR personnel at Changlangshu, Mon district.

A press release from the PRO, Assam Rifles, HQ DGAR, Shillong termed the attack as a “ghastly act” which showed “extreme cowardice as the soldiers were ambushed when they had gone to fetch water and were not in combat.” It added that the NSCN (K) has “thoroughly let the Naga people down by not only abrogating its ceasefire with the Government of India but also by its shameful acts of intimidating people through violence and instigating the security forces to retaliate against it in crowded areas putting the lives of the common people on roads to risk.”

The AR further alleged that the “NSCN (K) with its Myanmar based leadership is mainly interested in extortion & has nothing to do with resolution of the Naga political conflict.” It further termed the May 3 ambush as an “indirect attack on the local populace of Mon and was aimed to disrupt and disturb the peaceful environment in the area.”
It added that such incidents will impact the Government of India’s Look East Policy and further raised questions on the NSCN (K) approach to conflict resolution.
