AR crackdowns on ‘illegal’ liquors continues

Dimapur, May 3 (MExN): Different units of Assam Rifles stationed in Nagaland have reported seizure of ‘illegal’ Indian-made foreign liquor (IMFL) from various locations across the state.  

According to an AR press note received here, the Troops of 28 Assam Rifles, on April 30, captured huge cache of illegal IMFL being smuggled into Nagaland from general area of Doyang road.  

The liquors, found hidden in two Boleros, include 1182 bottles of Rum, 1432 cans of beer, 144 bottles of whisky and 3 bottles of Breezer approximately amounting to Rs. 3 lakh rupees in open market, it said.  

A total of four persons allegedly the owners of IMFL, including one woman were arrested in this connection, it added.  

The AR identified them as Yanrosumthung (28 yrs) of Chukitong village, Susomo (46 yrs) of Wokha village, Aifrig, (40 yrs) of Lakhuti village and Pni, (34 yrs) of Chukitong.  

In another search operation in general area Foothill road junction Bhandari on April 29, the 28 AR recovered another huge haul of IMFL worth Rs. 7, 50,000 from a Tata Sumo vehicle. The seizure included 1862 bottles of Rum, 432 bottles of Whisky, 456 cans of beer and 144 bottles of Vodka, the press note further informed.  

The driver and the co-passengers were apprehended along with the liquor, it further said identifying them as Apenthung Lotha (28 yrs) of Lunying village, Y Lotha (38 yrs) of Wokha, and Thingchio (27 yrs), Lidemo Lotha (25 yrs) and Longshipemo (26 yrs), all three from Merapani.  

41 AR recovers illicit liquor

The 41 Assam Rifles, on May 1, has recovered 205 cases of illegal IMFL worth approximately Rs 2 lakhs in the open market, according to another AR press note.  

The liquors were recovered when 41 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) along with police representatives launched an operation in general area 7th Mile, Dimapur based on specific information, it said.  

One person identified as Artha Angami (30 yrs), a resident of 7th Mile was arrested in this connection, it added.  

The apprehendee was later handed over Diphupar Police Station, Dimapur along with the recovered items for further investigation, the press note further said.
