AR creates awareness on Drug Abuse, HIV/ AIDS

Kohima, July 25 (MExN): The Assam Rifles has been conducting lectures around the state with the aim to create awareness on drug abuse and HIV/AIDs.  

The 9 Assam Rifles conducted counseling classes and screened a documentary movie on AIDS at TMT Higher Secondary School, Pfutsero on July 21. Around 100 students from Classes 7 to 12 including six teaching staff attended the event which aimed at removing misconceptions about transmission modes of HIV/AIDS amongst people and also to create empathy for those ailing from the disease, a press release from Lt Col Amitabh Sharma PRO IGAR (North) stated.  

The 9 AR also conducted a lecture on awareness about Drug Abuse and prevention of HIV/ AIDS at Chieswema Garrison on July 20. The lecture was delivered by a Counselor trained at ‘KRIPA’ Foundation for the youths of Tseisema village and adjoining areas. The Counselor briefed about commonly abused drugs, its route of administration, ill effects, prevention and also about method of transmission, prevention and treatment of HIV/ AIDS. A total of 50 youths attended the lecture.  

Meanwhile, the 44 Assam Rifles conducted a lecture cum interaction session with the theme, ‘A Healthy Me is Drug Free’ at Govt High School Tzurangkong, New Chungtia on July 19. Altogether, 45 students and teachers attended the lecture where the ill effects of drugs were discussed at length. The students displayed great enthusiasm and inquisitiveness during the interactive session and pledged to create awareness amongst their kith and kin about the social menace of drugs, a separate AR press release stated.  

The 36 Assam Rifles also conducted a lecture on ‘Drug Abuse’ at Saijang village and Athibung, Peren district on July 21. The aim of lecture was to educate and spread awareness about drug abuse amongst the youth of Saijang and Athibung village in Peren district, another press release from the AR informed. The lecture focused on the ill effects and preventive measures for drug and substance abuse. The event was attended by 100 villagers from Saijang and Athibung village.  

The 32 Assam Rifles also conducted an awareness lecture on the “Ill effects of drug trafficking and substance abuse” at Kiyeto Village on July 23. The event was attended by GBs and locals of Kiyeto and neighbouring villages.
