Kohima, January 15 (MExN): The Troops of Assam Rifles manning a mobile vehicle check post near Pherima, Kohima has seized smuggled Burma teak valued at more than Rs 2 crore from nine trucks on January 11. 


19 persons accompanying these trucks were also apprehended, informed a press release from PRO (Defence), Lt Col Sumit K Sharma.


According to the release, the recoveries were made when the troops at the check post stopped nine loaded trucks travelling from Kohima to Dimapur after specific input.


“During the spot check of the vehicles, 3600 cubic feet of Burma teak valued more than Rs 2 crore was recovered,” it said. 


The recovered teak and the apprehended individuals have been handed over to East Police Station, Dimapur for further investigations, it added.
