Arms dealers and extortionist apprehended, vehicle recovered

Dimapur, January 28 (MExN): A patrol party of F/13 IR and Dimapur Police while conducting MVCP Purana Bazar on January 27 arrested two arms dealers.
The additional superintendent of police, Dimapur in a press note informed that two AK-56 rifles with three magazines and five live rounds were seized from their vehicle. The arm dealers were identified as one James Hauzel (40 years) /o T Kam Hauzel, Churachanpur and one Nenem Paite (35 Years) D/o Nuna Paite, Churachanpur. The accused were traveling in a Maruti van bearing registration number – MN01 K-9747 coming from Churachanpur. Reputedly the arms were sold to an Assam based insurgent outfit. Also a case has been registered.

Arms recovered in snatched vehicle
Dimapur traffic police personnel recovered a country made 9MM pistol from a stolen vehicle (Scorpio) bearing the registration number NL10-7537. The note said that the vehicle is attached to additional director of social welfare Kohima.
The note stated that the vehicle met with an accident while fleeing during the wee hours on January 28 at Tragopan police point after the vehicle was snatched at gunpoint from the driver by two miscreants from deluxe point around 12:00 am. However, the accused had already fled the spot when the police arrived. A case has been registered in this connection.

'Extortionist' arrested
A patrol party of 24 Assam Rifles while patrolling on NH 39 near Jharnapani arrested one extortionist named Ayot (30years), a ‘SS’ section officer of highway command, ‘NSCN (IM)’ on January 27.
According to an FIR received at Medziphema PS, the arrested ‘extortionist’ was responsible for the entire NH 39 – from 6th mile Dimapur to Kohima. The FIR also mentioned that the accused had collected ` 5 lakhs during Christmas and ` 40,000 during New Year, the note said.
It also went on saying that the accused had collected ` 5000 from Imphal bound transport trucks and also seized the documents, driving license and vehicle keys of trucks bearing registration number AS01BC and MN01-7598, demanding ` 30,000 each from the trucks for their release when he was arrested. A case has been registered in this connection.
