The Assam Police on December 14 escorted vehicles plying NH 29 between Dimapur and Golaghat. “Today, the situation was relatively calm (in Golaghat),” said Mwblik Brahma, OC of Khatkhati Police Station. Quoting reports from counterparts in Golaghat, the OC said that vehicles were plying smoothly. Vehicles were allowed to ply from 6:00 am to 4:00pm. He said the situation in Karbi Anglong bordering Dimapur has been calm. “There were assembly of people but it was peaceful,” he added. Businesses in Lahorijan and Khatkhati, which remained closed the past few days, opened during the day. But liquor stores and restaurants did not open. Queried on the Assam Police provided escort to vehicles, especially inter-state, in the coming days, he said that it would be subject to the situation.
