Assam Rifles battalions apprehend two

Dimapur, April 11 (MExN): Assam Rifles battalions under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) apprehended two persons from different locations of Nagaland recently.  

Medziphema: Medziphema battalion apprehended an alleged extortionist during spot vehicle check near Kukidolong on April 9. “Assam Rifles troops stopped a suspected truck with registration no. NL-01K 2650 moving from Dimapur to Kohima and apprehended one individual in illegal possession of extortion money,” stated a press release from HQ IGAR (North). It alleged that the apprehended person identified as Buzi Angami revealed he had been working as an “over ground worker” for various NSCN factions to extort money from the shopkeepers, businessmen and local populace. “The recoveries from the individual included Rs. 1,27,500/- Indian currency in cash and 95 extortion slips of NSCN (K), NSCN (R), NNC (NA) and FGN,” it added. The apprehended along with the recovered items was handed over to Medziphema Police Station for further investigation.

Mon: Mon battalion of Assam Rifles established a Mobile Vehicle Check Post at ‘Hawa Junction’ based on information about movement of a suspected cadre in Longwa village on April 7. During the check, AR troops apprehended one person and recovered 22 illegal strips of ‘khani,’ according to another press release from HQ IGAR (N). The apprehended has been identified as Palai Konyak (24). “The individual revealed that he had been working for the NSCN (K) group and had brought the strips of khani from adhoc camp, Khanmoi of NSCN (K) to further sell it in Mon town,” the release said. He along with the recovered items was handed over to Mon Police Station for further investigation, it added.  

Wokha: Wokha battalion launched a search operation along with a police representative in Upper Mt Tiyi College Colony, Wokha on April 9 and recovered illegal arms and ammunitions. A press release from HQ IGAR (N) stated that the seized materials included four 12 bore rifles, two muzzle loaded rifles, two air guns, seven rifles butt, three metal cup for modification of illegal weapon/bomb, four air gun spring, nine hollow iron rod, six live rounds of 9 mm pistol, eight rounds of .22 mm, eight .22 empty cases and one hand made bomb. It further alleged that the “illegal materials” were recovered from the house of LD Yanthan, who was absconding from the house. The seized arms and ammunitions were handed over to Wokha Police Station and an FIR was also lodged for further investigation, the release informed.
