Assam Rifles conducts awareness workshops

Kohima, September 1 (MExN): 40 Assam Rifles under the aegis of HQ IGAR (North) conducted a workshop on ‘Consumer Rights, Drug and HIV Free Nagaland’ on August 29 at Town Hall, Tuensang along with the Chamber of Commerce and Industries, Tuensang.

During the event, a lecture was given by Superintendent of Taxes, Tuensang on consumer rights and duties and the effects of GST implementation on traders as well as consumers, informed a press release from Assam Rifles. RMO, 40 Assam Rifles also gave a presentation on ‘Harmful effects of AIDS and drug abuse’ and the need to stop the discrimination against people suffering from HIV, it added.

The event was attended by Commander 7 Sector Assam Rifles, Additional DIG, Commandant 40 Assam Rifles, civil administration officials, including Superintendent of Police, Tuensang, SDO (Civil) and various traders and shopkeepers of Tuensang. It concluded with a musical performance by jazz band of 40 Assam Rifles. Meanwhile, 15 Assam Rifles organised a lecture to create awareness about Amur Falcons at Straightway Mission School, Dan on August 29.

The aim of the lecture was to make youth aware of Amur Falcons and how it helps in assisting wildlife conservation, a separate press release from AR said. It was reiterated that Nagaland has been recognized as the Falcon capital of the world, thus it becomes our responsibility to preserve and protect the species. A total of 30 students and teachers attended the lecture.

The 44 AR also undertook an awareness campaign about the unique migratory bird “Amur Falcon” for the students of Govt Middle School, New Chungtia, Mokokchung on August 30. 145 students along with the teaching staff attended the lecture with active participation.

In another event, the 9 AR conducted a lecture on ‘Amur Falcon’ the migratory bird and Drug & HIV/AIDS Free Nagaland at Primary School, Kezo Town on August 30. Around 100 students along with teaching staff attended the lecture cum awareness campaign.

The 9 AR also organised a friendly basketball match between the battalion’s team and Chizami Town youths on August 29 with an aim to nurture the sporting talent of the youth. Chizami Town team emerged as winners of the match.
