Assam Rifles organise debate on Human Rights

Dimapur, July 31 (MExN): With an aim to sensitize troops about Human Rights, the annual Assam Rifles Inter Sector Debate Competition on Human Rights was organised at Assam Rifles Training Centre & School, Dimapur on July 27 and 28 wherein ten teams of Assam Rifles Sectors and ARTC & S participated.  

The topic for the debate was “Security forces observing human rights are better equipped to meet challenges to national security”. A total of 40 speakers debated on the topic in Hindi and English, 20 speakers each ‘For’ and ‘Against’ the motion, a defence press release informed.  

Rifleman R K Dubey of 10 Sector AR, Rifleman Umesh Kumar Yadav of ARTC & S and Rifleman Praveen of 25 Sector AR secured 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively for the motion of Hindi debate while Havildar Jagdish Pandey of 5 Sector AR, Rifleman Balwan Singh of ARTC & S and Rifleman S S Chauhan of 21 Sector AR secured 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively in against the motion.  

Rifleman H Tongsin Anal of 6 Sector AR, Rifleman N G Monsang of 26 Sector AR and Recruit B Choudhary of ARTC & S secured 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively in for the motion of English debate. In against the motion of English debate, Recruit Vaibhav Patil of ARTC & S, Havildar Jay V J of 7 Sector AR and Havildar Keneilekho Chietsu of 25 Sector AR secured 1st, 2nd & 3rd positions respectively.  

The team of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School was adjudged the best team and Headquarters 25 Sector AR team was declared the runners up. Assam Rifles team was also selected in the debate competition which will take part in the forthcoming “Central Police Organisation’s North East Zone Debate Competition-2017” scheduled to be held at ARTC & S, Dimapur on August 18.  

Addressing the gathering, Colonel Anil Yadav, Commanding Officer No-2 Training Battalion Assam Rifles Training Centre & School highlighted the importance of adhering to the Human Rights norms while dealing with the public and exhorted all ranks to strictly observe Human Rights. He also gave away prizes to the participants and presented trophies to the winner and runners up teams.
