Assam Rifles personnel debate on protection of Human Rights

Dimapur, June 25 (MExN): The annual Assam Rifles inter sector debate competition on Human Rights was organised at Assam Rifles Training Centre & School (ARTC&S), Dimapur on June 24 and 25. Thirteen teams of Assam Rifles Sectors and ARTC&S participated in the contest, which was attended by Col Sanjay Mohla, Deputy Commandant, ARTC&S as the chief guest.  

The main aim of the debate held with the topic “Protection of Human Rights: Is it not the duty of the security forces?” was to sensitize the troops about Human Rights and importance of their strict observance while dealing with the public, according to a press release from ARTC&S.  

A total of 52 speakers debated on the topic in Hindi and English. Rifleman RK Dubey of 22 Sector Assam Rifles and Rifleman Balwan Singh of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School were adjudged the best speakers in Hindi category for and against the topic respectively. Meanwhile, Rifleman H Tongsin Anal of Headquarters 6 Sector Assam Rifles and Hav/Clk Dhiraj Pandey of Headquarters 22 Sector Assam Rifles Sector were adjudged the best speakers in English for and against the topic respectively.

The team of Assam Rifles Training Centre & School was adjudged the best team and headquarters 22 Sector team was declared the runners up. The Assam Rifles team was also selected for the debate competition which will take part in the forthcoming “Central Police Organisation’s North East Zone Debate Competition-2016” scheduled to be held at ARTC&S, Dimapur on July 30, 2016.  

Speaking at the programme, Col Sanjay Mohla highlighted the importance of adhering to the Human Right norms while dealing with the public and exhorted all ranks to strictly observe Human Rights and law of the land while combating terrorism. He also gave away prizes to the participants and presented trophies to the winner and runners up teams.
