The District Education Officer-cum-District Education Mission Office Kohima conducted an assessment camp for the Children with Special Needs (CWSN) for Kohima district here at Ura Academy on May 17.
The assessment camp, conducted under District Mission Authority (DMA), SSA Kohima, carried out check up of Visual Impairment (V.I), Hearing Impairment (H.I) and Locomotor Impairment (L.O) wherein 149 number of CWSN have been covered.
Doctors and technician from Nagaland Rehabilitation & Research Center (NRRC) Dimapur, Star Key Delhi and Ophthalmic Assistant from Naga Hospital Authority Kohima assessed the CWSN
Kevileno Angami, State Mission Director, Samagra Shiksha, Nagaland, Kohima DEO-cum- District Project Coordinator DMA, Y. Mary Zhimomi, SSA deputy mission director Tali Jamir and several other officials supervised the camp.
Menukhol John, principal secretary school education & SCERT said that the department of school education will assess and try to provide the best equipments to the children with locomotor disability, visual impairment and hearing impairment free of cost.
Stating that many children requires surgical interventions, the principal secretary said the department would refer them to the hospital. The department has been trying to tie up with certain hospital for the same, so that they can give treatment to the children. He encouraged the children not to think that they are different from the rest of other children as every single child is special and further called upon them to avail the aids.
Menukhol said the ongoing assessment camp is expected to cover the entire districts of the state by May 23.
Kohima deputy commissioner Anoop Khinchi informed that more exercise would be conducted soon and advised the parents of special needs children to come forward and avail the facilities.
Kohima DMA assistant district coordinator Thongsenlo informed that second phase of the assessment camp will be conducted soon.
