ASUS yearlong golden jubilee celebration culminates

The year-long golden jubilee celebration of the Angami Students’ Union Shillong (ASUS) concluded here today by releasing souvenir and sharing past experiences/events by pioneers and alumni here at the Capital Convention Centre.

ASUS was formed with an aim to create better understanding, assist and support one another in times of needs and to bring the whole Angamis into a common platform in Shillong in 1968.  

Organizing committee convenor Lhouvirielie Üsou said since its establishment in 1968, ASUS has come a long way to become one of the leading student's bodies in Shillong.  

He said the jubilation offered an opportunity for the ASUS to reflect upon the history of ASUS and the important contributions it has made to the personal, academic development and unity that has brought of over thousands and thousands of students, past and present.  

Üsou exuded confidence that ASUS will continue its vocation of preparing students to engage successfully with the world for many years to come.  

Üsou maintained that in the past 50 years, Shillong had produced many intellectuals with brilliance and integrity becoming a remarkable citizen of Naga community and the country as a whole.  

ASUS first president Kevisiezolie Suohu in his memoir acknowledged Shillong for opening doors for the Nagas to acquire knowledge.  

He expressed hope that the present generation will build and serve the Nagas and urged the students to introspect and to wake up before the “walls falls apart”.  

Alumni Thepfulhouvi Solo said it was ethical moral values that made Angami different from other cultures and urged to keep it alive.  

ASUS former general secretary Thejao Vihienuo and ASUS former president Sochülie Solo also spoke at the event. Souvenir committee convenor Khriesaneisa Rutsa and Kevisiezolie Suohu released the golden jubilee souvenir.  

Earlier, ASUS president Kevisetuo Khruomo delivered presidential address while vote of thanks was proposed by ASUS Alumni Forum chairman Dr. Kevizakie Rio.
