ATMA Ahthibung launches Ginger Farm School

Peren, January 20 (MExN): Ahthibung block under ATMA Peren launched Ginger Farm School at Lilen Village on December 17 with Dimvei as the Farm teacher. Capacity building on post-harvest management of Ginger was also conducted by Kevingulie as resource person on the same day.


A press release from ATMA Ahthibung Block stated that the Farm School was inaugurated by Special Guest Akam Zeliang, DPD ATMA Peren. Speaking on the occasion he congratulated Dimvei on having achieved a milestone with the establishment of Farm School. He encouraged everyone to keep in touch with ATMA and to consider and adopt new technologies even though the age old practices passed down to them might seem appropriate.


The programme was chaired by Kevingulie, ATM and the concept of School was briefly explained by Lireni Lotha, ATM. Farm Teacher, Dimvei also took her time to share her journey towards the success of Ginger cultivation.


This was followed by capacity building programme on Post-harvest Management of Ginger. Kevingulie trained the farmers on various applicable techniques to enhance the shelf life of Ginger after harvesting, involving washing and drying, removal of plant debris, bleaching etc. He also elaborated on various value addition methods of Ginger and stated the importance of Ginger as health benefit. Altogether 14 farmers attended the programme.
