ATMA Kobulong conducts training on silkworm rearing

Mokokchung, September 8 (MExN): ATMA Kobulong block, Mokokchung organized training on rearing technology of Eri and Muga silkworm and raising of host plants at Senden Salang, Kobulong on September 5.  

Resource person Tianochet Jamir (sericulture extension officer) dwelt on different host plants. Som and Soalu are the primary host plants for Muga, while castor, kesseru and tapioca are the important host plants for Eri, he informed.  

He trained the participants on how to grow Muga and Eri host plants starting from the selection of site, land preparation, nursery raising, planting, replenishing nutrients, training and pruning of trees and its maintenance.  

Tianochet mentioned that systematic plantation of host plants and applying the recommended package of practices ensure availability of sufficient leaves for silkworm rearing in large scale, which will result into manifold increase of silkworm production. He further spoke on the various pest and disease managements of silkworm and its host plants.  

Altogether, 27 Seri farmers attended the training programme.
