ATMA Longchem block trains farmers

Mokokchung, April 15 (MExN): One day farmers’ training on intercropping of kharif crops was organised by Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA) Longchem block in Changdang village on April 11.  

In the first session, the farmers were acquainted to the concept of monoculture and polyculture by Nungtisang Aier, according to a press release. He urged the farmers to practise the cultivation methods of intercropping and polyculture to control pest and maintain soil fertility.  

During the second session, Sashienla demonstrated to the farmers intercropping of maize and soyabean. She explained on reclamation of soil fertility by soyabean when sowed with other crops.  

In the field, the farmers were given maize seeds of HQPM variety and soybean which were sown using appropriate spacing and methods. Altogether, 20 farmers attended the training.  

Meanwhile, the ATMA team also conducted training on cultivation of oyster mushroom in Alongtaki on April 12 targeting women Self Help Group (SHG). Resource person Sakotsungba explained on the economic importance of mushroom in the market and encouraged the women group to cultivate mushroom to raise household income. Mushroom spawns and required materials were distributed to the beneficiaries, the release informed.
