Wokha, March 15 (MExN): ATMA Ralan block, Wokha conducted training cum demonstration and mobilization of SHG/CIG/FIGs on March 9 at Community Hall, Old Ralan.
Chophabeni Kikon (BTM) spoke on the concept and importance of SHG/CIG/FIGs. She urged all the farmers to coordinate and work together to increase their income.
In the technical session, training cum demonstration on ‘Pests & Diseases management in rice cultivation’ was conducted. Resource person Thungchano (ATM) taught the farmers on identification of pests and diseases and the ways to tackle them without the use of hazardous chemical pesticides.
ATMA also conducted Field day cum demonstration on ‘Cultivation practices of Arecanut’ on the same day. Resource person Soyingbeni Tsanglao (ATM) spoke on field preparation, soil type needed, pit size, time of planting, spacing, intercropping, manures and fertilizer management.
Demonstration was also done on application of fertilizers with the resource person explaining that in order to get maximum benefit, manures and fertilizers should be applied in proper time and in right manner. Other aspects should also be given careful consideration because nutrient requirements for all crops differ during the various stages of growth, she added.
Altogether 40 farmers and ATMA officials attended the program. Essential fertilizers required for the growth of Arecanut was distributed to the farmers.
