ATMA Wokha organises day long District Kisan Mela

Wokha, February 24 (MExN): Agricultural Technology Management Agency (ATMA), Wokha conducted a day long District Kisan Mela on February 21 at Town hall, Wokha.


A press release received from Deputy Project Director, ATMA Wokha said chairing the programme Medemshiba, Project Director ATMA & District Horticulture Officer appraised the gathering by creating awareness among farmers about various schemes of Agri and allied Departments.


R Santsu Kithan District Agriculture Officer, in his short speech lamented about the good soil fertility of Wokha district and that the district has ample scope for more production.


He also stressed on organic farming and that the products of Wokha are being exported to various districts of Nagaland. He encouraged the farmers to work harder and put into practice what they have learned in various trainings, quoting “Everything else can wait but not Agriculture.”


Dr Santosh Kumar Baishya, Senior Scientist & Head KVK Wokha, exhorted the farmers to follow more scientific ways of farming and encouraged them to adopt the new technologies being developed by KVK and various Agri and Allied departments.


Dr Manazir Jeelani Samoon (IAS) DC Wokha & Chairman, Governing Board ATMA, special guest at the programme, lamented on three sectors viz Agriculture, Industries and Services, where agriculture sector seems to be the more vital sector in the district. The DC also emphasized on the use of good quality seeds, better irrigation system and encouraged the farmers to make use of Local Kissan Call Network provided by ATMA and also the recently inaugurated ACBC (Agri Clinic and Business Centre).


He apprised on the need for good market linkage in the district encouraging the farmers to club traditional knowledge with modern scientific farming.


In the technical session, all Agri & Allied departments KVK and ATMA highlighted their various schemes and programmes being implemented. This was followed by farmers scientist interaction where various queries and grievances were put forward by the farmers, where resource persons from ATMA, KVK and Agriculture and Allied department collectively gave expert advice.


During the formal programme, maize sheller were distributed to the four performing SHG – Tsungza SHG from Tsungza, Sochumta SHG from Niroyo, Longaro SHG Wokha village and Renbeni & Group Saron Colony by the Department of Agriculture. Department of Horticulture distributed vegetable seeds to the farmers. All the Agri and Allied Departments KVK and ATMA put up stalls. Altogether 116 farmers and about 40 department officials participated in the programme.
