The highly anticipated superhero film ‘Avengers: Endgame,’ the 22nd film within the ever-expanding Marvel Cinematic Universe releasing on April 26, is generating a fantastic buzz worldwide.
Dimapur is no exception. For the first-time since the resumption of movie screening in the city, theatres are seeing never-seen advance booking for the film.
There are two movie theatres in Dimapur – Hillstar Digital Cinema and FUN Cinemas Playbox Cinema.
According to the online booking service provider ‘BookMyShow ‘(in.bookmyshow.com), where the tickets are available for the movie, almost all the shows in Dimapur for Friday and Saturday were ‘booked’ in advance.
‘Sold out’ notices were given in most show timings, on both days. Hillstar Cinema and FUN Cinemas are running 4 shows per day for the movie.
The management of Hillstar Cinema told The Morung Express that such bookings were unprecedented.
Tickets were made available online for the first time for the movie after huge ‘public demand,’ it was further informed.
Fans from different places in the state are reportedly converging in Dimapur to catch the movie on the weekend.
The fever is not restricted to Dimapur alone. On Tuesday, IANS news agency reported that Marvel fans are finding themselves in a virtual queue to grab tickets for the highly anticipated movie.
BookMyShow witnessed a peak of 18 tickets per second and selling 1 million advance tickets in India even before the film releases in cinemas on April 26 in English, Hindi, Tamil and Telugu, it said.
Produced by Marvel Studios and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, the current release is sequel to 2012’s The Avengers, 2015’s Avengers: Age of Ultron and 2018’s Avengers: Infinity War.
Endgame is directed by Anthony and Joe Russo, written by Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely and features an ensemble cast including Robert Downey Jr., Paul Rudd, Chris Evans, Mark Ruffalo, Chris Hemsworth, Scarlett Johansson, Josh Brolin and Brie Larson, amongst others.
Rave Reviews, Record-breaking Debut
‘Avengers: Endgame’ premiered on Monday Los Angeles for a limited preview and critics are raving about last film in the trilogy.
The leading online review-aggregator for film and television, Rotten Tomatoes noted that the reviews after the first screenings were extremely positive.
After 118 critics review on Wednesday, it is currently ‘Certified Fresh at 97%’ and the common consensus among the critics was:
“Exciting, entertaining, and emotionally impactful, Avengers: Endgame does whatever it takes to deliver a satisfying finale to Marvel’s epic Infinity Saga.”
Meanwhile, box office-wise, the movie is estimated to break many records. Box Office Mojo (http://www.boxofficemojo.com), the leading online box-office reporting service, owned and operated by IMDb (www.imdb.com) estimated that the movie debuting in 4,400 locations, would collect “as high as the never-before-reached $300 million for the film’s opening weekend in North America.”
According to The Hollywood Reporter, the superhero juggernaut is “virtually assured of shattering records with a projected global launch of $850 to $900 million, if not more.”
Presuming the film goes the distance, will Avengers: Endgame be the last record-breaking opening weekend for the foreseeable future? Forbes posed.
“We expect Avengers: Endgame to break more records as cinemas continue to open the advance bookings,” said Ashish Saksena, Chief Operating Officer – Cinemas, BookMyShow, quoted the IANS.
